About Jeannice
Jeannice Gordon is an award winning, self taught artist. She began drawing for the first time in 2015 at age 50 while recovering from an illness. Inspired by the beauty, complexity, and peace found in nature, she studies the works and instruction of modern day masters such as Cynthia Knox and Dick Rauh. Focusing on graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor, Jeannice accepts commissions and enjoys teaching art to all ages to reduce anxiety, promote wellness, healing, and joy. Jeannice is a 6th generation native Texan, residing in Houston. She is honored to have her art displayed in private collections and businesses in the United States and as far as New Zealand.
Biography
"Some people are fortunate enough to recall drawing amazing things since the time they could wield a crayon; I was not one of those. The best I could do was visit museums and fill my bookshelves with incredible books on the masters. When I turned 50 years old, I created a ‘bucket list’ which included drawing a flower. So, I bought "Flowers in Colored Pencil" by Cynthia Knox. It sat on my bookshelf for years until I suffered from double pneumonia. Terribly ill for far too long, I got my book off the shelf and dug around in the kid's school supply drawer for some map pencils. It was as if God had reached down from Heaven and kissed me - I could draw a flower! Suddenly, I didn't care if I was sick anymore; I relaxed and started to heal. Through that terrible illness, a whole new world of sheer joy opened up to me! Now, I am happiest with my family around me and a pencil in my hand.
